7Keys kills if severe, children's doctor warns

A facebook user wanted to know why she couldn’t use 7 keys, the natural drug found in many pharmacies to treat measles

She wrote 

“[Good] day doc, [please] i want to know why do you say 7keys should not be used to treat measles.

Doctor Gbemisola of the FB Group Ask the Paediatricians, a children's doctor wrote back: 

“SEVEN KEYS have been associated with and a trigger for STEVEN-JOHNSON SYNDROME.... a severe disease which cause severe peeling of skin, mouth, eyes and other mucosa (lining of the body  internally). It can kill even in very standard hospitals if severe.

Seven keys is an herbal mixture.... The reason for its use by mums I have no idea.... They believe it will bring out the rashes.... You do not need any medications to bring out measles rashes.... They come out by themselves.

Not only is this a very unnecessary and useless drug.....but it can even cause problems for the child as stated by causing the severe Steven Johnson syndrome.

Seven keys does not cause Steven Johnson syndrome in every body..... But you will never know who will use it and come down with a serious illness..... Why even use a drug you did not need in the first place that can further cause harm.... A fatal harm for that matter!

Every month especially during the measles epidemic we see lots of cases.... Due to this unnecessary use of the seven keys herbal mixture, and quite a number die even in hospitals with ICU.

Save yourself unnecessary pain.... or preventable death of children..... Your children with measles infection DO NOT NEED SEVEN KEYS. If you want to learn by experience tho go ahead but you will know you have been warned.... And PLS STOP RECOMMENDING SEVEN KEYS TO OTHER MUMS for presumed or confirmed Measles.

The Paediatrician has also reported to Nafdac.

Unfortunately Nafdac on herbal remedies do not guarantee efficacy but safety.... Ie produced in hygienic ways etc and no poisonous stuff..... Since this complication of Steven Johnson syndrome can occur even with drugs like Septrin and co..... NAFDAC initially just requested the warning on label. 

However knowing that the drug is totally unnecessary in the first place..... There is even no point exposing children to the risk in the first place anyway. We are working on it being banned altogether. Due to the high rate of use in the country it is one of the leading causes of Steven Johnson syndrome in Paediatric patients.” 

Doctor Gbemisola has also previously mentioned that taking 7keys can lead to death.

"PLS DO NOT USE SEVEN KEYS TO TREAT MEASLES OR ANY RASHES IN CHILDREN!!!

PLEASE STOP THE PRACTICE!!!

DANGEROUS WITH RISK OF STEVEN-JOHNSON SYNDROME..... CAN LEAD TO DEATH IF SEVERE."
