All you need to know about caring for your baby’s hair

You've given birth to a bouncing baby boy or girl. Luckily your baby came out with a full, soft luscious mane on their head. What should you do to maintain their length and keep it healthy?
We've got the 411 right here.

Some babies are born with hair and some are born bald. But regardless of if your baby was born with hair or not, creating a daily hair care routine and consistent maintanence is key to achieving full and healthy locks for your baby.

Now that we all know that African hair can grow, the next thing to know is how to retain length and keep hair healthy. Basically, how to properly take care of your baby's hair. That's easy. We've heard and read it all. Deep condition, daily moisturizing. sleep with a silk bonnet etc.

The question is how.  Because nowadays we are inundated with so much information on the world wide web on natural hair hacks, guide, tips, dos and donts. So, where should you start from?

This is where we come in.

The honest truth is, proper care of baby's hair doesn't take that much. Baby's are born with sensitive scalp, their skulls are soft and still developing, too much pressure or manipulation is not good for them. A lot of products we, as adults use on our hair, essential oils, heavy leave-in conditioners, hair masks etc can not and should not be used on a baby's hair. You will have plenty of time for that as they grow older.

Keep your baby hair care regimen simple.

What to do:

1. Wash baby's hair with just water: you heard us! Babies don't need their hair to be washed with shampoo or black soap. In fact, babies don't need to be washed often either! Especially newborns. Their hair isn't dirty. There's really no need to waste all that extra lather on their hair. Save it for their bodies.
However should you feel a need to use shampoo, we advice you use a mild sulfate free baby shampoo to wash your baby's hair.

2. Oil baby's hair daily: To avoid cradle cap and dry scalp, use your favorite natural oils like olive oil, shea butter or hair oils formulated for babies to soften and keep their hair moisturized.

3. Comb/brush gently: Comb or brush your baby's soft ringlets gently to avoid hurting them.

4. Use a silk/satin bonnet or a silk/satin pillow case to protect their hair from being dragged or snatched on the cotton material of the bed sheets.

5. Do Not Over Manipulate: Resist the urge to style your baby's hair daily. if you should need to style her hair, a simple bow wrapped around their head will still do a great job of bringing out the cuteness on your baby's face.

6. Do not Worry: Is your babies hair not growing? Don't worry. Babies need to shed those baby hormones they were born with. Your baby's hair will probably start growing in when she turn two.
Your baby was born with a full head of hair, now they've got a patch in the back? Don't worry. Because babies sleep on their backs a lot during the first months of life, it's very common for them to have bald spots on the back of their head.

7. Moisturize: Daily moisturizing of your baby's locks will soften their hair and keep it hydrated which helps in retaining length and keeping hair healthy.

Should you follow these rules religiously your baby's hair is sure to grow and retain length
